I like my living spaces white, but blue is definitely my go-to color for bedrooms. It's solid and dependable, like your besties. Blue paint will never go out of style, because it's classic and timeless. It's also highly versatile, working with many different interior styles. For example, navy painted cabinets would work beautifully in both a modern and traditional style kitchen. Blue also pairs really well with pretty much any other color out there. You just can't go wrong with it. Just make sure to test the color in your house before you commit! If you're not sure where to start with selecting a blue paint for a space in your house, here are four of my favorite blue paint colors to get you started.
1. Benjamin Moore Blue Lace
I'm pretty sure you've been living under a rock if you haven't seen the photo below of former J.Crew queen Jenna Lyons' living room. The walls in her living room are such a subtle, cool, blue-gray. It's the perfect backdrop for her effortless-chic style. The exact paint color remains a mystery, and believe me, I have scoured the internet far and wide. Benjamin Moore's lace blue is thought to be the closet match. PS-Her whole home is worth a look, I've linked the full tour if you click on the photo.
2. Farrow & Ball Hague Blue
Hague Blue is a high drama, dark blue with green undertones. It's a very popular paint color and it's no surprise. The deep saturated color gives the living room below the perfect moody vibe. It's commanding, but still very cozy. Hague Blue looks so yummy against the equally saturated salmon sofa. It's the perfect color if you want to bring some sophisticated drama to a space.
3. Benjamin Moore Gossamer Blue
This soft & subtle blue is neither dark or light. It's perfectly balanced with just the right amount of pigment. I used this in Archer's room which faces west and gets really nice afternoon sun. The way the color changes throughout the day depending on the light & shadows in the room is pretty magical. In the morning, it looks more subtle and gray, but in the afternoon it is much bluer.
4. Farrow & Ball Inchyra Blue
If Hague Blue isn't your thing, maybe Farrow & Ball's equally moody Inchyra Blue will do it for you. This color doesn't really want to be put in a box. "What color is Inchyra Blue?" is actually a suggested google search. Is it dark green? Is it navy? Is it a super dark teal? Is it slate gray? Well, it can be all of them depending on the light. Fun fact: this paint color was created specifically for the front door of a historic house in Scotland. I absolutely love how the color was carried onto the ceiling in the dining room designed by Arlyn Hernandez below. It takes the drama of the color up several notches.
So there you have it. Four beautiful shades of blue paint to get your creative juices flowing. And as I always say don't forget to test a color in your space before you commit!
